RELAXER VS SILK PRESS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
-
RELAXERS
If you’re looking to achieve low-maintenance, sleek and straight hair, the Relaxer will be a game changer for you.
What is a Relaxer?
A Hair Relaxer is a cream, chemical treatment applied to tightly curled & textured hair. This treatment makes hair easier to straighten by chemically "relaxing" (breaking down) the natural curls and neutralizing them to give a straight appearance.
The Process:
We use Nairobi™, New Expressions™, and Perfect Results™ branded hair relaxers. These are no-base lye relaxers that are great for coarse hair and sensitive scalps. Avoid scratching or irritating your scalp 3-5 days prior to your relaxer appointment.
How Long Does a Relaxer Last?
Relaxers can last from 2-3 months depending on your hair’s rate of growth and how receptive the hair shaft is to treatment. Relaxers cannot be removed, they must be grown out to return your hair to its natural curl pattern.

SILK PRESS
If you want to achieve the same sleek and silky straight hair results of a relaxer, while maintaining the integrity of your natural curls, the Silk Press is the way to go.
What is a Silk Press?
A Silk Press is a professional thermal straightening technique that uses heat to smooth your hair into a sleek and luxurious style. Unlike traditional chemical treatments and relaxers, silk presses maintain the integrity of your hair and health of your natural texture.
How Long Does a Silk Press Last?
The longevity of your Silk Press is determined by your hair type, maintenance routine, lifestyle, and natural elements (humidity levels). On average silk presses last 1-2 weeks with proper maintenance, and 3 weeks on heat-trained hair with proper maintenance.
